Appliance Rebate Program
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded Arizona more than $6.2 million for an appliance rebate program. This program, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, is designed to help consumers make the switch to Energy Star appliances which are generally 15-50 percent more efficient than standard appliances.Under Arizona’s program, administered by the Arizona Department of Commerce Energy Office, eligible appliances will be Energy Star clothes washers, dishwashers and water heaters with rebates ranging from $75 to $425, depending on the purchase. Rebate requirements will be available to consumers in March of 2010. Setting-up the statewide administration process with participating vendors is expected to take 8-12 weeks. The program is anticipated to operate next year within a March to May timeframe or until funds are depleted. To plan for future purchases, a list of rebate eligible appliances is now available at their website or by calling the Appliance Rebate Hotline at 602-771-1186.
Your Ticket to Work with a Disability
When you began receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, you probably received a Ticket to Work. Perhaps you stuffed it in your paperwork or even threw it away. “Who are they kidding?” you thought. “I can’t work because I’m disabled.” Or, “Why would they push me to work – so they can end my benefits?” Believe it or not, a Ticket to Work is neither a joke nor an attempt to push you off your benefits. It’s actually an opportunity that you can use if you wish. A Ticket to Work is a voucher that you can exchange for services to help you work – if you’re ready and willing. No one is going to force you to work. However, many people with disabilities want to work, but need some assistance to overcome barriers. The Ticket to Work provides that assistance. You can receive services through a State Vocational Rehabilitation Agency or an Employment Network (another agency that assists people with disabilities to find suitable work). “But hold on,” you’re thinking. “I’ll start working, and it won’t work out. Then I’ll have lost my benefits and my health care, and I’ll have to start over with a new application.” That’s not how it works. Social Security understands that the road for people with disabilities to go back to work isn’t always smooth or short. There are many work incentives to help people try out work, keep and get additional health insurance, and return to their benefits if one job doesn’t work out.

Free Computer Classes
Free computer classes are offered on an on-going basis to the general public at both the Salvation Army in Prescott and New Horizons Independent Living Center in Prescott Valley. Topics include computer basics, as well as specific programs such as word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, digital photography and more. Classes are available on a first-come space-available basis. At New Horizons, priority is given to those having any disability.
